This small brick bungalow is located in a quiet cul-de-sac backing onto the landscaped sound-berm of Hwy. 403. For good reasons the client's sought to create an "outdoor room" that offered the peace and tranquility of a typical Japanese style Courtyard Garden. The final creation is a design which features an extended wood apron at the ground-floor level that encompasses both side and back yards. Privacy and context were created with vine-covered lattice walls, intersecting overhead arbours, and a simple rectangular pond recessed into the deck. The low chain link fence at the back of the property was wrapped with rattan. In summer, the palms from the sunroom, the garden's plantings of hardy bamboos, the sound of running water, the pond koi and wafting fragrances of waterlilies, create the illusion of a tropical garden.
